Is This Multiport II Toast?

#1 Post by SMurf » Sat Feb 10, 2007 12:45 pm

Hello,

I've just received a Multiport II port replicator for my 701C off eBay, but unfortunately upon attaching it to the system the internal speaker started emitting a staticy "shriek" of increasing pitch! Thankfully no damage was done and it still boots without the Multiport.

I guess I really should have paid more attention to the pics on the auction, but here's the one that shows the issue:-

The port connector seems to have taken a hit and the tracks at the very end of one of the connectors have come off.

It would've been nice if the port was a part that could be replaced, but that's not really the game IBM/Lenevo et al. play, is it?

So, do you reckon this could be fixed?

I really can't see what your problem is from your picture, and I don't understand what you mean by "tracks", sorry. I do, however have something that may help. Try plugging a mic into the slot onto your computer before (and keep it in during) plugging into your port replicator. If this takes care of your shriek, and you don't use the mic port replication, you can probably snip the pins for the mic off the dock, and use it.

Hope this helps!
