#1 Post by frewman » Sun Feb 25, 2007 4:33 pm

hello forum this is my first post. got a thinkpad 600e 2645 5ao. I want to upgrade the memory from 64 mb so got some on ebay, IBM 256mb 133mhz 144pin double sides 8chips non ecc.

the question is, if I install it will it work, is it compatable. also how do I open the memory compartment?

Welcome to Thinkpads.com!

To answer your question. The RAM chip you are looking at may work. The 600E uses a 66Mhz FSB, meaning that it uses 66Mhz SODIMM (144 pin) RAM. The RAM chip you have located is low density, so that requirement is covered, but most 133MHz SODIMM chips I have come across are NOT backwards compatible to 100Mhz. 100Mhz Ram chips will work since they are almost always backwards compatible.

The memory cover is the only cover on the bottom of the computer, located right behind the drive bay. Once screw holds it in. This is also where the CMOS battery is located (you'll see two wires that lead to it).
I have finally rejoined the dark side.

The safest thing to do is to look for part number 33L3069 or 33L3070. These are guaranteed to work on the 600E.

Sadly I can now confirm the memory in question is not compatable with the Thinkpad 600e. I have contacted the seller and they are going to exchange it for suitable memory.
