ThinkPad i Series 1300 1171-1VU CPU upgrade

#1 Post by amoffa » Thu Mar 01, 2007 4:38 pm

Hello all,

Forgive me if this question has already been answered, I didn't find it when I searched.

I have a ThinkPad i Series 1300 1171-1VU with a Mobile Celeron 700 and would like to upgrade the processor. I'm having trouble definitively determining what socket is in the TPad. It seems it could be micro-PGA-2, 495, 478, or 475.

What processor(s) can i upgrade to?
Will I need to update/hack the Bios to get the new CPU working?

Thank you in advance.

You can download a CPU identification program from Intel:

http://support.intel.com/support/processors/tools/piu/

Then, once you know what the "sSpec" is, you can look it up in this table:

http://processorfinder.intel.com/list.aspx?ProcFam=58

This will tell you which socket & what the core voltage is, which might help in determining which other CPUs are compatible (of course, if the processor is soldered in, you're probably out of luck).
TP360 • TP365x • i1452 • TP T42 • Intellistation Z Pro

Actually, the processor in the i1300 isn't upgradeable, as it is soldered to the systemboard. If you want to upgrade it, you will need to replace the entire systemboard with one that has a faster processor.

A quick to find out if a CPU is replaceable in a systemboard, is to check the Hardware Maintenance Manual for the model, and see if the CPU is listed in the "FRU removals and replacements" section.
