Thinkpad i series 1200-1300 can't read CD drive!

#1 Post by anavic » Tue Mar 06, 2007 3:18 pm

Hello. Some time ago I installed  Zone alarm:evil: in my thinkpad 1200-1300 i series. Then I uninstalled it and my poor PC started to fail. It didn't run Internet Explorer anymore and it didn't read the flash card or other USB device anymore. I downloaded the drivers using my MAC and burnt the files but now I see that the CD drive is not reading CDs anymore  In fact, the drive doesn't open if I don't use a clip to pull it out. What should I do??? In summary:
- Internet not working.
- USB port does not work.
- CD drive not reading CDs.

Please help!

Do me a favor and go into the BIOS (f1 after startup if my memory serves me right) and try to eject the CD rom with the button on it. (I'm trying to figure out where the problem is) Also, what OS are you running?

I did it...but nothing happened :( I could open the CD drive with a clip and inserted a CD but the computer won't read it.

I'm using Windows 98 Second Edition.

Thanks.

Unfortunately, it sounds like a motherboard issue at that point. It's probably time for an upgrade anyway (unfortunate and rare as it is with thinkpads). That's why I spent $365 on ebay and got a T30! :D
