I just bought a Thinkpad 760XD in a Garage sale for $25 !

It works when on the power chord - but the Battery is very dead...
Has Windows 98SE installed, 3 Gig HD, 32 MG RAM, Modem, LAN Port, CD ROM. 160 MHz CPU - I think. Had an external floppy drive.

They had no Manual for it thought....

I cannot find anything on the Internet on how to remove the battery.

I will buy a manual later from IBM, but can someone help or direct me to how one gets the battery out?

Do you take out the screws or is there a lever or slide I am missing?

Are they good batteries - sounds like rebuilts to me.

Open the lid as if you were about to use the computer. Next, push the lid release latches forward then while holding at foarthest forward push up on the front of the wrist pad with your thumbs. You'll life up the keyboard thus revealing the batter (center item) among other things. From there you can remove the battery simply by pulling a tab.

To get the battery, you need to lift up the keyboard. To do that, you push those two latches that you use to open the lid on the oppisette direction. I believe that you just push them toward the back of the computer instead of the front. Now you can pull the keyboard up (like opening the hood of a car). Now you have access to the hard drive, battery, and the ultabay slot. You should be able to download all of the manuals for this computer from Lenovo's website. I have used batteryrefill.com, but for this computer, you may be able to buy a battery cheaper on ebay. What you do for batteryrefill.com is send in your dead IBM battery and they send you another one with the power cells replaced.

I tried, but am confused by the little "T" shaped ends on the levers.
The "T" shaped ends do not allow the Keyboard past them.

Do the levers somehow come out?

I tried to move the little button along the "T" shaped lever to see if that releases it...nope!

Can anyone tell me HOW the keyboard is released?

Does it come all the way out or just fold forward?

Your help is appreciated.

NEVER MIND...!

My wife, who works for TSA, just showed me how to flip two button
levers at the front (I thought they only held the lid down!) and lift the
Keyboard out at the front...

Got it!

The Battery is a Lithium Ion "NOM 10.8v 3.0 AH" IBM. (OEM?)

That thing you are pointing to is for the second battery. The 760 can run off two batteries. I think that blue thing flips up to reveal the battery connectors.

I really depends. Nowadays, you could probably buy a 760 for $70 but at the same time, if you already have the computer and expect to be able to get enough use that the battery pays itself off, then go for it.

Also, have you left the battery in for at least an hour while the laptop was plugged into wall outlet? In my experience, the 760 lithium ion batteries don't die easily.

I have a very similar looking 755CD that I use on my car. I found a battery on E-bay for $20. Just plug in the FRU number into the e-bay search field and you should be able to find lots of options.

As a side note, I have a problem charging the battery in my 755CD though. It takes about an hour to fully charge, but once charged, it starts to get really hot and the battery becomes fully dischgarged after a while if I forget to unplug it. I think the charging circuit is messed up in my TP. So I have to be carefull when charging and keep an eye on the battery meter. Have you tried running it with the power on and watching the battery meter?
