Thinkpad 600E Screen seems dim especially after a sleep

Hi, got a weird problem with my Thinkpad 600E (2645).
The screen seems dim, you can notice more if you put the thing into standby and then wake it up, you can see the screen getting brighter slowly over time as if its warming up until the point you notice "this seems brighter than 10 mins ago??"
The invertors seem cheap on eBay so im wondering if that could be a prob. im no electronics expert but how do those things go?
Anyone got any ideas?

I got some guesses...
Given the age of the laptop, the backlight (aka CCFL) inside the LCD may be showing signs of wearing out. As you have seen that the inverters are fairly cheap (and usually easily available even in the UK), it might be worth it to buy one and swap it out.
Question: Does the backlight show any signs of a red or pink tint as it is warming up? If so, then the CCFL is the problem.
I believe that the LCD bezel is the only thing that needs to be removed to gain access to the inverter (it's been awhile since I've worked on the 600 system). 4 screws on the sides and two in front. The bottom part of the bezel may have some double-sided tape which needs to be carefully pulled apart. Slide a fingernail along the edges to detach the bezel. The inverter is held in place by a couple of connectors and a screw. Re-assemble in reverse order.
If replacing the inverter does not help with the slow turn-on, then I'm afraid the only solution is an LCD panel replacement. People have been able to replace just the CCFL, but it's a very tricky procedure and if not done carefully, can damage the display.

No weird colours to report anywhere
It just sees dull, from a cold boot its gone by the time Windows fires up. Thats why its most noticable when its been on standby, wait for it to warm up put it in standby then wake it up and you notice it.
Ill try that invertor thing and pray.

In case you need to buy the backlight bulb there is a seller on ebay who got it.

Am I right in guessing that the 600X has the same screen as the 600E?
If so I'll grab that light, but as advised earlier its quite a hard/tricky job to replace the thing?

Yes it is the same screen if it's a 13.3 one.
