WHAT KIND OF POWER DO U NEED TO TRAVEL TO ASIA SPECIFICALLY PHILIPPINES, WORD IS IF YOUR POWER SUPPLY IS MULTI/DUAL VOLTAGE IT'S OK...IS THIS TRUE? AND WHAT DO YOU LOOK FOR TO CHECK VOLTAGE?

If you are using a genuine IBM AC adapter then you will not have any problems. They can accept 110 to 220VAC and will output the DC voltage required by your laptop. Check the label on the adapter (input voltage).

The Philippines appears to use 220V and several types of plugs. You may need an adpater to convert the 2-pin North America flat blade plug to the 2-pin round plug. Adapters can possibly be found at Radio Shack or other electronics stores. You may even be able to find some adapters at your departure or arrival airports.

In order to check the voltage coming out of the wall, the only way I know to do that reliably is to use a voltmeter (also available at most electronics and hardware stores).

The Philippines uses 220V supply voltage. The wall socket accepts a double-flat-pin plug similar to the North American 3-pin plug but without the ground pin. I use a 3-pin to 2-pin adapter plug when I go there so I do not have to cut the ground pin of my Thinkpad power supply. Most, if not all, modern laptop (Thinkpads included) power supplies are designed to be plugged to 105v-230v AC systems, but to be sure, check your AC adapter .

thx guys i checked the adapter label and YES! it stated the input @240-100vac...once again thx for your advice...this should save me some money bypassing the need for a step down transformer...more $$$ for adobo or san miguel beer!!!
