560 Memory

#1 Post by Severian » Sat May 22, 2004 12:16 am

Howdy,
I thought the 560 used the same memory as the 560X and 560Z. So, I took a 64 meg module from a 560x and put it in the 560. The memory on the so-dimm did not work. Should it have worked?
Thanks

IBM says 560's need a BIOS update before they can take 64MB ram modules... Although I did that, it did not work for me... It would still only take up to 32MB modules...
If you try updating the BIOS let me of the results... Thanks :)

The 560 is not the latest and greatest, but it is OK for light usage. I had been using a 701 as my carry around machine. As cute as the 701 is, I am starting to feel constrained by the 486. The 560 seems speedy, by comparison to the 701.

I tried it again and was careful to check that the memory was well seated. It came right up. 72 meg is enough that the 560 is a nice carry around machine now. The biggest problem with the 560, that I can see, is that the hard disk is hard to get to, so for now 1.3 gig is all I will have.
Thanks.
Ralph

p.s., now I have to decide whether to buy another 64meg so-dimm to replace the one I took from my 560x. I see some reports that a 128 meg stick will work in the 560x or 560z. Since the 560z is my second most used machine, it might be worth it. But, only if it would work.
