RE:Hard Disk
Please download and burn an Ubuntu Live CD or a Bart PE CD (supposing you can boot off a CD rom somehow.) If it recognizes the 120, you can't use it (or you need an update in) windows 98. If it still picks up the reduced size, it's a hard/firmware issue and you need an alternative BIOS (unfortunately is not normally an option) or a newer PC to run it's full capacity in a single partition (you may be able to partition it and use both). Also, are you sure there isn't just a second, unformatted partition that windows just isn't showing?

The 160G works fine on my 240X, you just need to use good imaging software to clone your original disc to the new 160G drive in a USB case. I did this first time around.
Second install was using a Win98 SE boot floppy to fdisk a 5Gig "C" partition for XP, a 2Gig "D" partition for the XP i386 folder.
Format C drive "format c: /s" and make active, format D drive then remove the 160G drive and copy the i386 folder from the XP CD via USB case.
After installing XP, partition manager can sort out the drive geometry and partitions so that you can see the full 160G.

Maybe fdisk a boot partition smaller than 137g for system installation and then use lba32 patch after to recognize full space will help?salaam wrote:i've tried to install 160gig(5k160) hard disk, but failed, either 240,240x or 240z.
it's said that they couldn't support hard disk larger than 137gig.

NO windows operating sys. before xp service pac 1 will support
drives larger than 137 gigs. (you can use drives larger than 137 gigs, but you must format and partiton only the first 137 gigs.)
leaving the rest of the drive un-used.
98 and ME will let you THINK you can, but when the hard drive is eventually written past that 137 gig limit, your boot information on the drive will be WIPED OUT!! trust me on this. xp is smarter, and will only see, and let you partition 137 gigs max, but after you install sp1, you can go back and use the disk utilities program in xp to create an additional partition and recover the un-used space. a lot of thinkpads will only recignize a maxium size of
partition for the boot portion (c drive) but will allow you to
partition the rest as a additional drive partition. my 380z will only see a maxium of 8.5 gigs on the "c" drive, adrian
