Thank you all for the help with the drivers!
Unfortunately, it looks like I'm going to have to dissect the 600 this weekend to determine why the HDD and CD-ROM are not getting any power. If I manage to get it up and running, I'll definitely let you all know how the drivers worked out!

Hi,
how to clean the coating of an IBM thinkpad 600, because it is sticky, which product to use.
Thanks in advance.

Hello!
I've been meaning to throw a comment in here for a while but had some account issues which Bill had fixed for me. Thanks Bill!

I have a 600x which I want to try to boot off a compact flash card rather than an IDE drive. The card and adapter I have works, as I can install windows on it and boot from it in another (not thinkpad) device, however in the 600x, the card isn't detected in bios as anything at all.

I have a thinkpad R51 which does detect the cf card as an ide drive (but I think it has died because I can't get it to post anymore, and didn't get as far as to image the cf card with my OS..), so I'm positive that the card/adapter is not the issue.

Has anyone had success with getting a 600x to detect a compact flash card in the IDE slot? I've search the thread and hadn't found anything. Though a thread where the device supports booting from the PCMCIA port, but I do not have a CF-PCMCIA adapter to try this out.. Just a CF-IDE 2.5 adapter.

Thanks

Hei!

I have not done it in the 600X, yet ... but in an X40 twelve years ago. Pictures:

Thinkpad bioses can be tricky when booting - a HD drive or CF card are "not detected". If I remember right, this was my method in this X40 case:
- Cloned the working (and booting) HD to a CF card with a CF to IDE adapter and a proper IDE cable (44-pin, master/slave identification). Used disk cloning software (see the pictures). In this case I used a different adapter as the final "disk" (mastr/slave possibility).
In the 600X I don't know if it is possible to make same kind of cloning - can the IDE slot "see" both master and slave disks (cards)? Or is the ultraslim bay only seen as slave device? Then there is the "normal" method in case of 600X: insert CF card in the disk bay, boot & install with floppies ... which I have not tried for a long time.
