I am stuck in standby mode and can't figure out how to get out of it???? Everything was working fine yesterday. I had an extra battery that I put in the machine to charge it, but today I can't turn the computer on. It shows it is in standby mode. I have it connected by the A/C cord and removed the battery, but it's still in standby mode. What do I do?

I don't know where it is on the I, but there is a reset button usually near the power switch. It is in a little recess and you 'll need an unbent paper clip or the like to press it. That completely resets the computer.

If that doesn't work, see if there is a feeler switch that is supposed to detect the cover being closed and it may be stuck. I could show you where these are on 760's, 770's, and 600's, but not yours.

Nope, I don't see a reset/recessed button anywhere on the computer. I can't even shut the computer off without taking the battery out and disconnecting the power cord. When I plug it in, all I get is a green crescent moon and NOTHING else. No sounds or anything. The only time I get a sound from it is when I hold the power button down. I get a loud clicking noise but that's it. I have to hit the power again to stop the noise.

If you can't find the reset button or if your computer does not have one, remove all power sources, unplug the computer and remove the main battery, then remove the cmos battery for about a minute or 2. It will erase all your BIOS settings, which the reset switch also does. Then your ThinkPad, exculding any software that you may have loaded on the hard drive, should be as good as new. If not, then you might want to call IBM tech support.

Remove the cord and battery. Then, either hold the power button in for 30 seconds or just let the laptop sit there for about an hour.

I think there's a capacitor that needs drained. But, I know when mine has locked like your's holding the power button did the trick.
