Generally the cheapest place you might be able to snag a module for your 600 would be here in the Marketplace forum. Next place is probably eBay, followed by any one of a number of online stores.
Cheap is relative. I believe at the moment a "low-density" (16-chip) 256MB PC100 module is averaging around $40-45 on eBay. If you are lucky, you might be able to get
one for $35. One of the admins (JHEM) has reported that he has had
memory problems with a 2645-51U. You might have a hard time locating any PC66 material and if you do, it will probably command a higher price due to its "rare" nature. You
should be able to run PC100 or even PC133
CL2 modules in the 600, just make sure that they are low-density (16-chip for 256MB, 8-chip for 128MB).

For a straight TP600 (versus a 600E or X), I would stick with the 288mb limit, because I have had sporadic problems as well, trying to get certain 256mb sticks to read in different 600s, but the same sticks would work fine in a 600E.

With my 600 (51U), I have 425mb of RAM. One slot will only recognize half the memory if it is 100mhz, but the other one will read all of it. So I basically have a 256mb 100mhz card in one slot and a 128mb 66mhz card in the other. Add the 32mb of onboard ram and you have 416mb. Unless you can find a 256mb 66mhz stick, you cannot go higher than what I have. and 256mb 66mhz sticks are rare and/or expensive.

I don't know how their machines run, but my recent acquired 600e runs great with 224Mb of RAM (Thanks to Ray for the stick of 128). Of course, my machine is running W98SE so there's not a lot of overhead involved and I'm not making it do a lot since it's a backup to my T30. What OS are you running on your machine?
