New Hard Drive for TP560X

Hi,
My 7 year old 560X has a dying 4GB hard drive. Scandisk reports bad clusters and hangs while trying to fix them. Linux says disc read error. (I can't boot into Win98 or Linux. Can land up at the DOS command prompt though).
Is it possible to buy a new hard drive that can be used on the laptop.
It's a nice little thing and I don't want to go for a newer system right now.
Would appreciate any information I can get.

Thanks,
Anand Gadiyar

You should not have any problems installing new hard drive for this puppy.
I had even older 390E upgraded from 3.2GB to 10GB and reinstall XP Pro without any issues

Check for good deals on e-bay (you should be able to find something for $30-35 (for under 10GB)

Notebook hard drives 2.5" 9.5mm are pretty universal for all thinkpad models. I had Hitachi and Samsung 4200rpm with 2MB buffer

IBM's site says the hard drives for my 560X are "Dealer Installable only".
What does this mean?

Also, has anyone tried a hard disk greater than 6 GB on a 560X? Could someone tell me where I can get information on replacing the hard drive?

Thanks,
