I'm planning to dual boot my 600x (the one listed in my sig). I've got a 40gb hdd that I'm going to partition like this: 10gb ntfs for Win2k, 10gb ext for Linux 512mb for L swap and the rest will be fat32 for common storage (these sizes may change as I plan it out more).

Now question is for anyone that has put Linux on a 600x, what distro did you use and what results did you have.? I've read alot about the NeoMagic chipset and modem issues but I want some more feedback. I've thought about using Fedora, Slackware, Debian and Suse, but have yet to make my mind up.

On my 600X, I made a small boot partition, ext3, swap and the majority is one big NTFS partition at the end. I don't know if GRUB still requires the boot partition in the first 1024 cylinders, but I play it safe.

I've used Red Hat 7 and 9 and Fedora Core 1 and 2, Knoppix and Gentoo, and they all work just fine. I had a hard time with Debian, but I think that's just because I'm so used to the Red Hat flavors, and I didn't try very hard... yet.

I also haven't tested the modem, but video and sound work just fine.

Just an update.

I've installed a 40GB hdd. I made a 9GB fat32 partition for Win2k, 512MB partition for Linux Swap, 9GB Linux Root partition and the rest is a fat32 storage drive partition.

I installed Win2k and then Fedora Core 2. FC2 installed without a hitch and Grub is working perfect.

Note: I was going to install Gentoo, but didn't have time to go through it all.
