Hi all can anyone tell me where i can get or download the user manuel and service manuel for a ibm thinkpad 570 which a friend has got but no manuel with it

Billy;

Go HERE to find all info concerning the 570E available from Lenovo. Enter the machine model and build number from the back of the machine, and the system will give you detailed info on your particular model including the HMM and all available drivers for the 570E.

Enjoy, I have a beautiful 570E that is still cranking along after all these years.

many thanks for the link we got the drivers ok
the problem we have now is the laptop was bought from a charity shop but the person that donated it has kindly left a bios password so when it boots up it says press f1 to enter bios but it is passworded we had a look on net and found a site that told you how to jump it can you tell us where the dimm memory is on the computer as the jumper is underneath that but we cant find it

It's my understanding the password is stored in an EEPROM chip and the chip must be replaced to clear the password.

sounds like a supervisor password to me as a power on password would prompt before then - the supervisor password is stored on a special eepromm which isn't affected by removing the cmos battery or shorting the password pads. Discussions about supervisor password removal are not allowed on this forum.

Shorting the password pad will (I believe (look it up in the manual)) give you access to the machine by erasing the power on password, but not to the bios and functions set by the bios (time, new power on password, boot up order, etc.). You need the supervisor password for that. Also the hard drive may be password protected and if it is there is nothing you can do about that.
