TransNote mod - removal of ThinkScribe

I am curious to know if anyone has tried permanently removing the ThinkScribe part of their TransNote?

If one does not use the ThinkScribe, removing it would save some bulk and weight, making the computer even smaller and easier to carry around.

The HMM does provide instructions for turning a right-handed TransNote into a left-handed one, which requires the detachment of both the computer and the ThinkScribe pad from the cover.

I've done it before - removed the computer portion. There are a few screws that must be removed as well as a ribbon cable. Its not hard to do.

values being what they are, you might consider selling the transnote
for $200 plus depending, then buying an x20/21 for $150--get an
XGA screen as well. As a computer the transnote is an x20 SVGA.

Did you end up using the endurimer cover with just the computer? Or did you just have the "naked" computer?

Good point Tom. But I do like the TransNote as a "design" object in its own right.

I have a T60p as my main machine anyway.

Did you end up using the endurimer cover with just the computer? Or did you just have the "naked" computer?

I've done this before as well (I've pretty much mutilated the t-note model every way possible), and the only real weight savings to be had is dropping the cover; simply removing the Thinkscribe hardware would get you negligible weight loss, as it isn't that heavy. IIRC, the t-note without the cover was just under 3lbs.

After about a year, I went back to the original configuration (though I added wi-fi around then).
