Hacking the video out on 600E

#1 Post by nitro2k01 » Fri Jun 08, 2007 7:35 pm

I have a crazy little idea. I want to mod my 600E to output video with a more regular plug, like an RCA plug.
My question is whether the black cable going from somewhere near the video chip to somewhere on the right side carries video data. If so, is the pin-out of the connector known? Does it carry S-video or composite?
(I know I'm probably "better off" with a cable from eBay, but I think it's fun to live on the edge and mod my stuff)

I think this thread will answer most of your questions.

Not the thread, but at least it gave me a few hints. As far as I understand:
The black cable transfers the data digitally to the video encoder, which resides on a subcard. This subcard then produces S-video. I'll get dirty the with an oscilloscope and see if I can get things straight.

I think the output from the video sub card is composite video as the end of the cable (FRU 05K2821) is a standard RCA jack.

An RCA jack you say... What doesn't make sense is the fact that the connector on the computer side has three pins.
Also I looked up the IC on the sub-board (From Google images) and it's supposed to give S-video. (Cr+L)
But I will discover all that in time.
