600X, running WIN 98SE
1st time poster, acquired a great 600X a couple of months ago,
what a dream machine, today I noticed windows time
in lower right hand corner was incorrect, reset clock but
it will not recognize PM when selected and will not display same.
Any thoughts or suggestions, would be appreciated.
Also machine has not been up-dated with most current
BIOS, using original factory configuration, Do you recommend
up-dating BIOS ? Any pointers would be appreciated as I am
hardly a techie, which is why the 600X has so much appeal to me.
Thanks

Welcome to thinkpads.com!
My only guess from your description of the time display problem is that your Regional Setting has been changed to display the time in 24-hour or "military" format. Go to:
Start/Settings/Control Panel/Regional Settings
and click the "Time" tab. Look at the "Time style" box. If there's "H:mm:ss" or "HH:mm:ss", then that's the problem. Click the down arrow associated with that line and choose "h:mm:ss tt" style. Click the Ok button and you should see the time in the System Tray (lower right corner) show hours, minutes and AM/PM.
I would not be too concerned about updating your system's BIOS unless you are having a problem that is known to be cured by a newer revision level. At least that's my philosophy. For the record, what are you running? You can check by entering the BIOS setup screen (aka, Easy Setup) by holding down the F1 key while powering on the system. Keep F1 pressed down until you see the Easy-Setup main screen and the BIOS version and date will be shown. You can then click on the Restart icon to continue booting the system.

Ray,
thanks for helpful timely reply.
Will leave well enough alone with regard to BIOS update,
however I may be a candidate for a new CMOS Battery.
Do you possibly have the IBM Link for the 600X thinkpad
Maintenance Manual that people have referenced here
in the forum.
thanks again.

Sure, no problem. Most of the general questions like this are answered in the FAQ thread found at:
http://forum.thinkpads.com/viewtopic.php?t=1689
Under section #8, "How do I get this thing apart?", is a link for the various Hardware Maintenance Manuals:
http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site. ... -39298.htm
There, you will find an entry for the 600X:
