ThinkPad 600E Boot Issue

#1 Post by Litesol » Thu Jun 14, 2007 7:32 pm

Hi All,

I recently acquired a 600E and I had to replace the hard drive. Since it is used I don't have any of the original startup disk. I downloaded all the drivers from the IBM/Lenovo website. I cannot boot directly from the hard drive. If I press the F1 key I get a graphic telling me to insert a disk. If I insert a WIN 98 boot disk the computer will boot and ask me what I want to boot from hard drive or cdrom. I can pick the hard drive and it boots fine. The original drive would allow you to get to the bios to change the boot order. I replaced the drive because it had failed and you could not read from the boot sector. Please help...

To enter the Easy Setup (aka the BIOS) you need to hold down F1 before turning the computer and continue holding F1 until you get to easy setup. From the Easy Setup menu you can go and configure the boot order. I usually have it set to FDD 1st, CD-ROM 2nd, and HDD 3rd.
I have finally rejoined the dark side.

What is the actual BIOS version that is listed in the main BIOS screen?

I think that the 51U's latest BIOS is from 1999.
