Can I use one of those laptop-to-IDE adapters to connect my thinkpad 600 hd to my desktop?

I've never tried one of those, but I don't see why it wouldn't work.

I have one of those USB external drive kits for laptop drives (got it when I bought my 12GB drive), and that works good.

You're not looking to boot the desktop off of the thinkpad's drive, are you? The difference in hardware might cause problems.

Yes, they work quite well.

However, that being said, never FORMAT the HD or install an OS while connected to the desktop.

It's OK to copy anything you want to/from the HD.

They work great for ghosting an image of your drive to a storage drive on your desktop. They are tons faster then the usb enclosures. They are pretty cheap on ebay.
