600x dvd drive

#1 Post by mnigro » Sat Jun 23, 2007 12:27 pm

Have been using a DVD ROM / CD burner drive that came with my used ThinkPad. Never any problems. (It’s a Toshiba DVD-ROM SD-R-2002.)

I recently installed drivers and software to add an external DVD burner (LG GSA-E-10L). There was a lot of software that I added on with this drive (Nero, incd, etc.) The only snag I hit at first on the external was when I was running a backup, in that I needed to define the external drive as a recordable drive. (I can't recall the specifics, but after I did this it worked fine.)

However, now I notice that no matter what type of cd I put into the old internal drive, no files are recognized. I can see the drive listed in "my computer", but no files are displayed or accessible.

Is there another setting I have to tweak to get the old drive back?

Hard to believe that the old drive happened to die after I added the external. There must be some connection to these events. Thanks.

Hmm... Try launching Nero AFTER you put the disk in the drive and then see if you can access the files. I currently have this same problem in a T23 after swapping around several different DVD burners. I think I got the system totally confused as to what type of drive is installed. Windows does not recognize the loading of any disk until I start Nero. Once Nero is launched and terminated, then access to the drive (and files) is allowed. I suspect that something in the registry has been hosed but have been too lazy to revert back to a backup drive I made several months ago. The temporary workaround isn't too bad at the moment.
