Error Code 192, Remove Thermal pad or not??
Error Code 192, Remove Thermal pad or not??
I currently have 2 600 on the operating table at the same time today and running in to 192 error code on both machines. My question is if removing the thermal pad and applying grease is better on these cpu's??
I have tried 2 different fans and get the same error. I actually have about 3 other fans I could try, but need advice on thermal pad before I continue.
1 cpu gives 127 error on both machines, so I know this cpu is unreliable.
o5k3466 = 266mhz which gives 192 error code
10l1701 = 266mhz which gives 127 error code and 192 error code on both machines.
I have both machines open with only cpu and fan. No Modem, PCI Slots, or memory.

I haven't yet run into this problem, but the HMM says that the CMOS battery can also be a source of a 192 error.
Not sure about the difference of thermal pad vs. grease in keeping the CPU cool. How thick is the pad?

Good to hear. Don't know if you can get enough grease into the space where the pad is/was or have the heatsink compress more (into contact with the CPU). I've swapped out a 600E CPU but don't recall what the pad looks like or even how it's arranged. I'd say run MobileMeter with a pad and with grease alone and see what keeps the system cooler.
Generally I like to replace the CMOS batteries before they are well into their last days. Figure five to six years of usage and then it's time to get new ones installed.
