thinkpad 760el no audio?

i have a thinkpad 760el 9547 and i cant get the audio to work with the speakers or the headphone jack. it previously had windows nt 4.0 on it and the audio did work after installing windows 98 i can not get the audio to work. form reading previous post i belive i need the ess drivers. under device manager i have an es1688 audiodrive installed and working properly but no sound. ive tried the drivers found on this page for the es1688 http://www.esstech.com/techsupp/drivers.shtm#combo

any help would be appricaited

Hi,

Have you checked that "mute" isn't selected on any of the volume controls?
Are there any unknown or non-functional devices shown in device manager?

Did you turn up the volume (black slider above the keyboard)?

Does it work if you plug in headphones?
