I'm using a Thinkpad 600E with Window98 and I can't seem to get the Windows system to recognize a new thumb drive which supports USB 2.0. I know my USB port is just 1.0 capable, and the system seems to recognize the drive when inserted, but it seems to have problems locating and installing the correct driver.

Previously, using a USB 1.0 thumb drive, I didn't have any problems whatsoever. I believe I went to the Cruzer Micro website and pulled down the correct driver for this model/unit, but I still seem to be hung-up in getting the proper system recognition. Suggestions?

Windows 98 may be the problem. You want at least 98 Second Edition, and of course the right driver for the device.

As pianowizard said, it is very likely to be an OS issue. My own thumbdrive (Kingston Datatraveler 1GB) won't mount on Windows 98. The Kingston driver requires that the machine be running at least Windows 98SE.

There are universal drivers for Windows 98SE that work with all USB drives, but I am not sure whether the same exists for Win98. Check at the msfn.org forums.
