Ultrabay battery doesn't automatically recharge on 2645-9FU
Ultrabay battery doesn't automatically recharge on 2645-9FU
My Thinkpad 600X (2645-9FU) has the ultrabay battery (replaces the CDROM drive.)
When I connect the machine to recharge, while the machine is in STANDBY mode (Windows 2000), the main battery recharges, but the ultrabay battery does not. If I remove and re-insert the ultrabay battery while the machine is on and running, it begins recharge normally.
This behavior began when the CMOS battery first failed. I replaced the CMOS battery, however, the recharge issue above didn't clear.
Any suggestion on how to make this automatic?
Thanks,
Dave

Wow. That is odd. Third-party batteries have acted strangely for me, but I'll assume since it used to work that yours are IBM or Lenovo branded.
My next step would be to initialize the settings in EZSetup, with no batteries in the machine. Then if that didn't work, then with both. If that didn't work, then just the ultraslimbay battery.
Keep us posted.

Thank you very much. Yes, it is an original IBM battery (which oddly enough has pretty good capacity, given that it's been on the shelf for some years.)
Now, here's my basic stupid question of the day --- how do I re-run "ezsetup"? Is it in the BIOS, or an application (which in the latter case isn't present, because I rebuilt the OS from scratch.)
Very tks!
Dave

OK, I got into the BIOS, cycled through all of the screens and menus, and rebooted. Same result. Next, I put the battery into a Thinkpad 600E, and it has the same type of misbehavior (basically the battery doesn't stay in charge mode until it's fully charge, instead it exits charge pretty quickly, well before being fully charged), so I'm pretty sure at this point the battery (which is an original IBM product, but has been on the shelf for several years before first being put in service) probably developed an internal problem coincident with the original CMOS battery replacement I did on the 600X. Therefore, the next step is to replace the bay battery.
Thanks for all of the help, tips, and pointers - much appreciate each of you taking the time to reply.
Will let you know once I get the battery rebuilt how I fare (I've used "batteryrefill.com" several times with great results, so I'll go that way again.)
