Hello! its my first post in this great forum that i found on the internet.
My name is martin, and i owner of a thinkpad 600e mod. 2645-4AX Model Number 78ZNV01, witch i tried to found in IBM and my model not exist!
Anyone has knowledge of my model, is a P2 366 mhz 160MB (originally 64MB) hard disk of 6,4 GB, screen TFT 13,3", cdrom 24x, y buy this laptop directly to IBM as "refurbished"
Also i buy the TV-out card and this weekend procede to install it.

My questions are:

1 -What processor i would put to upgrade the cpu and what risks about the upgrade to a P3, otherwise, if upgrade to a P2 400mhz MMC2 processor what risks maybe presents?

2-I have two SODIMMS installed, in bank 1 a PC66 128MB, and in bank 2 a PC100 64MB, recognize the first bank but the second bank not. What problema may it be?

It's nearly impossible to get exact information on specific Thinkpad models at the IBM/Lenovo site, and the 2645-4AX model is no exception. However, it does exist and if you ask long enough, someone will have the information you need.

Quick question, did you get this info from the bottom of the case or is the info Easy Setup provides when you hold F1 at power up?? When you said it is a refurbish from ibm/lenovo, how long ago did you purchase??

I get this info from the bottom of the case, later i post the info that show the info setup easy.

I bought this laptop to a IBM as a "refurbished product" in october of 2005, the fabrication date displayedin the bottom of the laptop is Sept. 1999.

The service repair o IBM is fantastic, 24 hours later of the product came to my house (IBm ship to my house) the mother burn!!!!!! (se me quemo el mother) and the service change all the spares in 48 hs (mother and battery of the memory BIOS)

Try cleaning the memory slot contacts and the memory chip contacts with IsoPropyl Alcohol. If this doesn't work, you may have a bad memory slot. The 366MHz 600E usually accept 256Mb sticks of memory but get the right kind (low density) and update to the latest BIOS first. If the slot is good, you will have 544Mb RAM max, still good enough for most purposes.

You can get the latest bios at http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site. ... SHY-46HLKQ and as noted above, this is the first step. If the two memory modules still do not work together then try all of the six possible combinations to try to determine where the problem is.
Regarding the processor update, there will not be much difference between 366 MHz and 400 MHz. The 600E's with 400 MHz processors had a different system board than the others. The older system boards may not be completely stable with a 400 MHz CPU. From my own experience this is the case for the very oldest system board that shipped with a 300 MHz CPU.

Hello, i do the test about memory banks and never recongnize the memories in the bank two, also alwais recongnize on the bank one.
I never update the bios and this is the version that shows, and a note in the motherboard, this laptot was repaired by IBM argentina official service in guaranty.

You have the latest bios and the memory modules are good according to your test results. Try inspecting the contact pins in the bank 2 socket and also the solder joints to the motherboard. A bent pin or bad solder joint can cause the memory to fail in that socket. Even if you see a problem, repair may be difficult.

It may come down to two choices: don't use socket 2 or replace the motherboard. Even with only one socket you can use a 256 MB memory module, giving you 288MB total. That should be enough for just about anything the 600E can do.
