Understanding External Media Sources for 701c

Hey all. I'm new here, though I'm not new to tech. I've acquired a 701c in near mint condition, though all I have is the unit and the power supply. It has a bad install of Win95 on it and I'd like to install OS/2 Warp 4 on it. The problem is I don't have the external floppy drive, a dock, or a PCMCIA CD-ROM drive.

My question is, what types of drive devices can I get for the 701c? I gathered from some other discussions that the Dock II device has a floppy and CD-ROM drive in it, but that it requires an adapter for the 701c.

Any help with this is deeply appreciated :)

Welcome to the forum!

I have a similar problem with a 710T. I removed the hard drive, and tried it with a USB-2,5" adapter, but no luck. Next one up was a USB-3,5" adapter with a 3,5"-2,5" adapter (it can provide more current with its own power supply for the old drive), still nothing. Next thing i'm going to try is to put it in a 486 or P1 desktop with the 3,5"-2,5" adapter.
My guess is that these USB-IDE bridge chips don't implement the whole IDE/ATA/ATAPI standard and don't support the access mode this poor sucker wants to use. The drive works, that's for sure. In fact, 0 bad sectors.
If it works in a desktop, i'll try to install either Win95 or 3.1 on it. Or a very stripped down Linux.
