slow booting 600 with crystalware message

#1 Post by redbeardz » Tue Nov 02, 2004 11:39 am

I just installed Windows 98 SE on my thinkpad 600. I followed the directions on ibm's website and installed all of their latest drivers. Everything is working well except when the laptop is booting I get the following message. It is after the Win98 splash screen and it hangs on this message for a minute or more before continuing. Any Ideas?

You should verify that you downloaded the right audio driver.

All the Thinkpad 600's (including E and X) use Crystal Audio, but for some reason you are trying to load the driver for a different version. The solution to this problem is in the next paragraph.

Alternatively, you may have a conflict. Open up Device Manager and see if there are any devices with a red "X" or a yellow "!" If you find any, delete them and restart the computer. The computer should install the right audio drivers or tell you that it cannot because it has the wrong ones.

If you have tried removing all audio drivers and reinstalling them, and are sure you have the right drivers, come back and let us know what message you are getting (if it is different).

Hope this helps.
