I have a thinkpad series i-3000 with xp installed.
There are color quick buttons that I have installed. But there is also a thinkpad-button.
The thinkpad button should launch a program called access thinkpad or so I read.
Are there any instructions anywhere on how to get that button working, especially in xp?

I am not sure how to do things on i series but generally one requires Hotkey utilities drivers and Access Help online User's Guide to make the Thinkpad/Access IBM button work.
Moreover there is a partition called "non-DOS service partition", not included on the HDD of all older models of thinkpad machines, you can check it whether you still have it handy or was included with your machine by pressig F11 during the system Power on. If it does then the next step for you would be try repairing it via (provided it supports your machine):
Rescue and Recovery - Recovery repair diskette.
Another option for you would be tracking down the Product Recovery Disks for your machine, you can request it in the Marketplace of this forum or try ebay to hunt it down since IBM no longer sell them for older machines and customers with out of warranty cannot order them.

Instead of using diskette, can we install it onto a CD-R or thumb-drive?
