760C doesn't seem to take a USB II PCMCIA card

I purchased a USB II Card for my 760C laptop and it doesn't fit in the socket. It can be slide into the slot but will not seat without force. I am not going to force it of course. But I am curious what is different about the card. I did some reading on the web and it said the CardBus USB card that I have supports Busmastering and is 32 bit. Although it looks like any of my other pc cards it doesn't fit. Would anyone like to elaborate on the differences of this card and the sockets provided on the 760C. I would be very interested.
Thanks Thomas.

The 760C doesn't have Cardbus (32BIT) enabled PC slots, only 16BIT.
That card is useless to you, as is any other USB/PC card adapter. Your PC slots must be Cardbus in order to use one.

USB Card Bus and the 16bit socket of the 760C continued....

The card would be usless to me however I have a A31p that does not have USB II support and only 2 usb ports on the back. I will just use the card in the other computer. Do you know if there are any USB cards that will fit this old computer or were they all 32 bit? Can I get a USB 1.1 to work?

All PC slot to USB cards are 32BIT, doesn't matter if they're USB1.1 or USB2.0.
Use it in your A31p, it will work fine.

James

There are actually some usb 1.1 to CF cards available for use in pda's. You can use them in a pcmcia 16 bit socket with an adapter. Dunno about the driver situation or whether it's worth the cost and hassle.

No, you can't!
PC to USB adapters will
ONLY work in Cardbus (32BIT) slots. PCMCIA (16BIT) USB adapters don't exist.

The 760L, LD, C and CD all have 16 bit PCMCIA 2.0 ports, the E, ED, EL, XD, XL, 765L and 765D have 32bit CardBus.
