Hi everybody

I have the above drive that I want to sell. It comes from my TP 600e 2645 al3. It is 2.4x dvd However I am not sure what it is compatible with. So that I and the buyer are clear.
I looked on ebay at other similar products ant there was a tp ultraslimbay dvd drive for sale and the owner stated tha that it can be installed in the ultrabay of any 600/600e and the UltraslimBay of 570 Ultrabase.
But then it says that dvd playback is only supported in TP 600e and 570 otherwise it is is a data storage device. So does the same apply to my drive.
On top of that the owner provides a matrix that indicates which TPs support DVD playback under which operating system with 2x dvd drive (I assume 2.4x falls into that category). This shows playback is supported in win 98 and 95 but not NT and 2000, XP is not listed.
Does all the above info apply to my drive as well?

many thanks for any advice

Basically correct, yes. The 366MHz or higher 600E just supports software decoded DVD video if all the drivers, firmware and software are updated to the latest available (IBM says the 300MHz 600E will, too, but I wouldn't bank on it). NT does not support DVD playback on either machine. W2k will work on a 600 or 600E machine with a Margi hardware decoder card and XP is supported on the 600 (the 600E audio/video hardware isn't supported under XP for the Margi). XP supports software DVD playback on the 600E 366 or higher but not with DVD express (you need Win DVD 4.0 or higher). Can't speak to the 570.

compatibility with 570

Thanks Keith

As always really helpful. Just leaves me wondering whether I can say drive will work with 570? Also I assume that the 600 is an earlier model than the 600e?

Yes, the 600 was introduced before the 600E although for a while they sold side-by-side.
