System board error
Using F1 and subsequently testing the system board of a 600e that I just bought on Ebay I get the following:
a red 'X';
DEV 001;
ERR 91;
FRU 3610
How bad is this?
Thanx

Most likely the cmos battery needs replacement.
Try to take the main battery out and disconnect from the mains for a short while, then reconnect the ac adapter and power on.
I will expect that you will be prompted to set date and time, in which case the cmos battery is flat. If not, then try running the diagnostics again, without the main battery.

I just Googled FRU 3610 and it seems there are many posts like this one.
Change the CMOS battery.
My 600E had a similar issue, but it was stone dead. I didn't want to spend money if I didn't need to (I had no idea of the thinkpads' true condidtion at the time), so I clipped the wires off the old battery and just taped them to a newer (different size, but the electrons don't mind) and re-installed it. I used a CR2032 from a spare desktop PC I had.
Fixed it.

Common sense to some of us is unfortunately the higher education others strive to attain.

DEV 001 = system board
ERR 96 = have no idea
FRU 3810 = Fan (38 ) is the first suspect and system board (10) is the second
What basically is happening is that the system is telling you that there's a problem with the fan. Either it is not spinning OR in some cases, the CMOS battery is weak or dying. You can find (some) of this information from the Hardware Maintenance Manual for the 600/600E
http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site. ... WIK-3SYPX2
The bit about the CMOS battery being suspected can be found using the forum's Search function. Enter "FRU 3810" and check the "Search for all terms" option.

Have you tried booting without the CMOS since you started having the blank screen issue? I doubt the CMOS will cause a blank screen. As far as errors with a dead CMOS or without one completely, I can test on a 600 (2645-51U) after a few hours.

Z61p (WUXGA)/2.16ghz/2gb/60gb, R51/1.8ghz/1gb/160gb, R40/1.5ghz/2gb/80gb, 600E/366mhz/416mb/20gb, Project R51 with SXGA+
Here are your results for 600 (2645-51U)...
I tested mine with a good battery, no errors. Then, booted without it and it gave me the 192 error. Beeped twice and gave me the "HAND" clicked on to test to go to pc doctor. These are the errors it gave me testing the systemboard.
DEV 001
ERR 96
FRU 3810
I threw away all my dead CMOS batteries so I couldn't test with one. I have run the tests with my 600e and I didn't get the 192 error and pc doctor didn't give me any errors on systemboard. Make sure the replacement CMOS has the correct voltage and polarity as stated in your other post.

I have a 600e right now that is giving me the same errors.. A new CMOS battery did not fix the 192 error... The noisy fan is the next bet. The fan is probably not spinning fast enough thus the 192 error.. I plan on taking the fan assembly out and cleaning and oiling first, then if need be replacement...
