Screen much brigther on my 600 than 600x
So far I'm really pleased with the 600x I bought off ebay, but the screen is significantly dimmer than my TP 600. I noticed the difference within 2 hours of use but I tried to ignore it. However, I noticed there was a huge difference in lcd brightness when I placed them side by side.
Am planning to sell the 600 soon. Is there anyway to swap LCD monitors before the sale (switch components between laps)? Thanks.

The act of swapping LCD's is certainly within the realm of doable. Download the maintenance manuals.
But there is the question of compatiblitly. First compare the part numbers for your particular screens. Probably they won't match, but one never knows. That may or may not be a problem.
Probably the best thing to do is search this forum for "screen compatibility" or some such.

LCD 600/600X
Are the power sources the same? Are you looking at the 600 on AC and the 600X on battery? I think the LCD can be set to dim to conserve power; in the BIOS and in Thinkpad Configuration.
I have swapped LCD's between 600 models, but always between 600E and 600X. I seem to remember the inverter card is different for the 600 and the 600E/X.

Both are hooked up via the AC.RRHODY wrote:Are the power sources the same? Are you looking at the 600 on AC and the 600X on battery? I think the LCD can be set to dim to conserve power; in the BIOS and in Thinkpad Configuration.

By the way, the 600 is a 2645-85u and the 600x is a 2646-4eu. Can they be incompatible by simply looking at the model difference (2645 vs. 2646)?
Here are two pictures of the laps side by side: Left 600 and right
600x
Pic1- Both using AC and brightness all maxed out using the plastic tab on the lcd
Pic2- Both using AC and brightness is lowered to the max

Edit: Couldn't get the pictures to load so please just click on the links.

I have swapped these many times
Just an FYI;
I have swapped 600e & 600 LCD's to 600x more than a few times due to damage to 600x's. Just follow the dis-assembly manual and reassemble and your up and running. There are differences in the inverter boards but the entire LCD assemblies will swap and work.
Good luck...

I noticed that too, could be to do with prolonging battery run times, also different lcd brands with specific inverter ranges play a part too, good news is you could always switch em over+ vica versa
if you want more brightness on the 600x machines.
