Just purchased an IBM ThinkPad 600X PIII 650 running Windows 2000 SP4.

BIOS has been updated to ITET55WW

It has 256MB RAM what's the max RAM can it hold and recommended MFG and PN# on the RAM.

It also has a 12g HD what the max size HD can I install and suggest MFG and PN# on the HD.

Also will it run Windows XP Pro?

Look for any recommended upgrades from this fourm.

Thanks

Dewey

Max Ram is 576(64 on board plus 2x256)

You need PC 100 low density(16 Chips) ram to be sure of compatabilty.

It will take the largest 2.5 HD you can find. Any PATA(IDE) drive will work. Try for a 5400 or 7200 RPM model.

It will run XP Pro like a champ(It looks like you have a speed-step model if the 650Mhz CPU is stock)

No..you need 144 pin sodimm..the link you gave looks like desktop ram to me.

If you want the IBM FRU number and feel like paying through the nose..its 33L3070.

But look for any PC100 CL2 sodimm 16 chip and you should be OK..you will probably end up paying 25-30 per chip(256MB)

There is some PC133 memory that will work..theres a sticky somewhere on the forum.

EDIT:sticky is right at the top of this forum

your machine will run xp just fine as is.
i reccomend atleast a 40gb 5,400 prm hard drive
maybe more ram depending on how you manage your resources.

128mb min xppro/sp1+office 2000.
196mb min xppro/sp2+office 2000.
256mb min xppro/sp2 up+ office 2003.
384mb min vista ultimate+ office 2007.(about same speed as win xp sp2 + office 2003 with 128mb!
