RAM in 600X

hello all
quick question about my trusty 600X. i'm running this machine (650mhz, XP pro, maxed out RAM, 5400rpm HD) with every possible setting tilted towards performance (i stopped disk indexing, restore, removed all the XP eye candy, etc.) but it feels a bit sluggish and seems to be using up an awful lot of RAM (450+ out of 575 when using firefox and konfabulator), does that sound right?

Sounds about right, but I'm currently running WinXPP SP2 on a T23 with 1024MB. Most of the eye candy has been disabled and I've got Firefox 2.0 running with 5 open tabs and a couple of small apps (MobileMeter, DSClock, 4t Tray Minimizer), along with NAV2002 on wireless. Using just under 400MB. Don't know what the memory footprint of konfabulator is, but 450 could be right. How many process are running? I've got 37 on mine with several unimportant ones (acrotray, iPodService, iTunesHelper) as well as a couple of TP programs. Also, what kinds of anti-virus and/or spyware programs are you running?

im very satisfied with the missus 650 machine with a 7.2k harddrive + 320 ram + 108 mps wifi,it simply flys through all tasks,no glitches whatsoever with xp sp2,office 2003+ a host of other apps.
internet browsing is superfast with good wifi transmission too.
I never use anti virus program but rather go online for a check from time to time if in doubt.
i also found there are many current bloatware specifically designed to hogg up more ram than justified in order to fool people into thinking their machines are slow when they are really not!
its a big conn to needlessly rid of a proven reliable machine, things like live messenger ver 8x,microsoft search bar, like as if there was nothing wrong with the proven superceded messenger apps before microsoft blatantly forced users to ditch em like it or not! really the software is the real blame.
every time i do a clean install xpsp2 + office 2003 in unmolested form, the speeds reminds me that to be the case.

I've got 43 processes with 337MB committed out of 575MB. Right now I've got Outlook and Opera running as well as a few small system tray apps.
I think it's hard to evaluate whether you're using too much memory without a full system analysis, since the amount of physical memory you've got committed is dynamic depending on resource needs at any one time.
Make sure you have enough hard disk space. Also, Firefox has has some issues with memory commits in the past, but am not sure if those issues have been resolved. I'm pretty sure that Opera, for example, uses much less memory on a regular basis than Firefox. (Don't get me wrong, I love Firefox and I use it all the time, but I use Opera as my preferred browser).
