WiFi Card for 570 TP

I can get a 3.3v Silver Orincoco card to work in this unit. I cannot get a 5.5v card to work unless I turn off encription.

:?: Any suggestions? Do the 570's only take 3.3v PCMCIA cards?

Thanks, Bill

570's take 16 bit PCMCIA cards which work off of 3.3V.

Thanks...any reason why just the Orincoco will work? I have an D-Link Airp Plus and a 3com Office Connect PC card and they worked in my T23. But, I have not been able to get them to connect (with encription) in my X22 and 570. I have tried the latest Windows XP drivers from each company and the computer says it is installed and working. But, they only connect to a site with no encription. The Proxim/Orincoco Silver works perfect.

I am stumped.

The cards you mentioned are probably 32-bit PCMCIA cards, see my previous post.

560X, 560Z and every 570 all have 32-bit CardBus slots. TWBOOK.PDF doesn't say anything about voltage, though.

The 570's can have either type II or type III cardbus slots. So basically you should be able to run 32bit and 16 bit cards in it. So, getting back to the OPs problem, I haven't a clue :).

The 570 is Type II or III according to the User Guide - Specifications. The Wiki says that 32 bit is backwards compatible.

But, my 570 says that the hardware and software are working fine in the "hardware properties". I can get them to connect to an "open" non-encripted wifi system that is next door. My home wireless router will work with my Z61t and X30 just fine.

But, when I enter my WEP code on the 570...it will try to connect and then fail and try an open system. The open system connects every time.

But, if I put in the Proxim/Orincoco Silver a/b card...it connects to my home system everytime with no issues. I am using the Windows XP or the connect software from D-Link and 3com...neither works correctly always wanting to connect to the "open" system and refusing to connect with my encripted wifi.

It is not the end of the world since I have ordered another Proxim card on eBay (cross my fingers). But, I would really like the get the 3com to work since it has a retractable antenna.

Thanks for all your comments and suggestions. Perhaps someone has had the same problem. You folks always come up with great input.

Regards, Bill

Not sure if I am encountering the same problem, but I have a similar experience. I have four 570s (2644-1AU, 1AG, 3AG and 6AG) that I want to use wirelessly. For three of them I have one PCMCIA card that works perfect (even with WPA/PSK). On the 1AG (with the latest BIOS update) however, I cannot get connected. The LEDs show the connection is made, they blink three times and then the connection is lost. Reception is fine, all use the same drivers, but somehow I think this is a software problem. There is an update for XP SP2 that include WPA encryption which I installed on the three working TPs, the non-working TP has XP SP3. SP3 enables WPA as well so it's not sure it is a software problem. When I use a different WiFi card, it works fine..

Any ideas?

I found the "Air-Link 101" Wireless Cardbus Adapter at Fry's work just fine. They are on sale for less than $10 and work flawlessly. If I need a WiFi PC card...this is my solution as they support WPA2-PSK and WPA-PSK plus WEP just fine. I also use Windows XP...not the Air-Link software to run the card. When you install the card simply install card first and then the CD and let Windows XP find the driver. Presto...you have a perfect WiFi 802.11g connection.

Thanks!

Another question: will a Type IIIB card work in a 570? ThinkWiki doesn't seem to mention this extension/new standard..

I don't know...perhaps someone can comment. I have the Airlink card working on an A21 series.
