If you have set up the boot order on the Thinkpad, you should be able to boot from the Windoze 98 CD. It should recognize your new drive and format it.

You will still need to download all the proper Thinkpad drivers or you will be stuck with 16 colors, 640x480 display, and non-functional modem, PC Card slot, etc.

Hope this helps.

That is what i originally thought but when I load the cd I get the option to boot from cd or hard drive. I chose cd as the hard drive is not formatted etc, but then the screen just flashes a dash?

can i format the drive using dos? can i even get into dos?

On boot the screen displays I9990305

I entered easy setup and checked, everything went to restart and got a 301 error?

sorry but i am not very adept at this, any suggestions please?

you can cancel the installation process by pressing F3.
by that you leave the installation and return to a DOS prompt.

301-keyboard error
I9990305-No bootable device.
