How to open CD drawer before Windows boots??

This is a dumb question but here goes ... how can I open the CD drawer before Windows boots up? It won't open when the laptop is off. I'd like to put my livecd of [censored] Small Linux in there and boot from it. Right now I am booting into Windows, inserting the livecd, then rebooting.

Thanks,
Sara

Most CD and DVD drives have an emergency eject hole somewhere on the front panel. Look for a tiny hole, about the size of a paper clip in diameter. Take a straightened out paper clip and carefully insert it into the hole and gently push. You should only have to put in about 1/4" to 1/2".

If ever I need to put a cd in before booting, I just press F1 for bios, (or F12 on newer TPs), open the drive, slip the cd in and restart.

On a machine with the F12 function, there is no need to restart. Start the machine, press F12 immediately and probably two or three times until it provides the DOS start menu. Open the CD drawer, insert the CD, close it and select Boot from CD. It should boot (works for me). ... JDH
