So, I went to a computer store in the big city 30 miles away (population over 16,000 people!) and got a Thinkpad 360 CSE! It's very similar, and I was wondering if the larger hard drive from the 755 CE can be transplanted ? It has less than 200 MB left on it's 539 MB drive, and there are a half dozen or so programs I want to add, and this P.C-DOS/Windows 3.11 stuff is *huge*!

I finaly figured out why I was having so many problems with my 755 CE. It has little green spots - mostly solder joints - on the system board.

Very sorry to hear your 755 CE has oxidation. I'm not exactly sure what size drive you have in the 755 CE. The largest was 810MB, next size down was the 540MB. The largest drive sold for the 360 CSE was a 540MB. I'd not be afraid to try it out to see what happens. Can't damage it electrically/electronically by doing so......
Too bad your loosing 50MHz with the 360 CSE though.......
If you are brave the oxidation on the 755 CE can be partially corrected/removed by stripping the system board out and using an electronics solvent and gentle toothbrush. Here's a link to one vender I've used; http://www.echeloninc.com/cleaningsolvent.htm
I personally would do a reflow/touchup after the cleaning if it was my favorite. The 755 CE has a bigger/better screen.......

I was thinking about trying to fix it now that I have a backup. The part I miss most is the internal modem. I have a PCMCIA cartridge, but I was hoping to put USB & Wireless in those...
The problem I'm having now with both of them is the Arachne web browser. It won't load its ppp driver and it keeps saying it's out of "environment space."

I would fix the 755 CE just because its not common these days, makes a nice point of interest, where we've been and how far we've come......
Did you swap the drives?

Not yet. Is there a quick, easy way of backing up the hard drive in one computer to another, *exactly*, like a version of diskcopy that can deal with different formats (the destination larger than the source) but that will work over the serial ports?
I can use the 755CE if the MWave drivers are disabled, but it will lock up in DOS and some DOS programs.

Do you have a serial port cross over cable? A straight through won't work.
