I'm rocking with the thinkpad 600 2645 a2u p2 266mhz wit 228mb of Ram, Win 2000

My question is this, would i be better served with running a "modded" version of xp such as Tiny XP Rev2 edition?

I'm tryin to get most out of this system as its my primary pc for the next fewmonths till i can afford an upgrade?

I mainly want to use it to "try" and produce music and general pc stuff.

i was able to successfully run FL STUDIO 6 and Recycle 2.1 on it along with Audicity. ahh but i digress..

the point of this post is this..

in terms of SPEED and pwr.. is USING windows 2000 going to be my best option?

or would i better off with runnin one of those "modded" xp operating system's made to run on slower and LOW powered systems?

any and all input appreciated!!

thanks yall

My 600E seems pretty happy with basic XP. It would be better if the RAM was maxxed out, but one thing at a time.

I wondered the same thing, and have acquired a copy of tinyXP. Haven't had time to try it yet.

Does anyone know why when i'm tryin to install Directx 9 i get this error msg.....when extracting the install file from microsoft

Extracting file failed. It is most likely caused by the low memory ( low disk space for swapping file) or corrupted Cabinet file.

what does that mean? can anyone send me the direct link from microsoft's site?

maybe i don't have the right one.. i tried 33.4mb Directx_9C_redist and directx_nov20_07_redist... but same issue with both.. let me know

thanks
