600x + XP ... APM instead of APCI?

My 600x does'n work well with XP and ACPI. The fan will not work correctly, hibernate does'n work...

So I'm thinking, APM may be the better choice instead of ACPI.

Is there anybody out there with 600x + XP + APM?

I temporarily installed XP with APM on my 600X in an attempt to resolve some issues with PCI cards in the SelectaDock III. In my case, installing with APM did not resolve my problem, and I found that APM under XP did not offer as many options as APM under Windows 98SE did. However, APM is most definitely tied in to power management and sleep states, so it could conceivably affect your hibernation and fan symptoms.

I haven't found issues with ACPI and XP on my 600Xs (both are SpeedStep originally, upgraded to faster CPUs), and in general ACPI offers a number of worthwhile advantages that make sense if you are going to go with XP. I realize you are trying to get around a set of issues that may be specific to your machine, but I just wanted to make that clear in case you are not familiar with the differences. You will, for example, find that there are battery and power management tools that do not work unless you have ACPI installed.

I recall reading through a number of slightly conflicting accounts of whether or not you could switch to ACPI from APM or vice versa without requiring a full re-install from scratch. I don't recall the specifics, but here is a page I bookmarked for some reason:

Here's my earlier post explaining why I tried the switch to APM:
