need a replacement lcd screen for a 240z i recently aquired.
the screen was broken (cracked). i took it apart, and the screen in it is the xga hitachi (fru 05k9830) hitachi part number TX26D20VC1CAA. if you have a new, used, or know where i can still get one, please let me know. also, could a whole screen
assembly (lcd, inverter, case, cable) from a earlyer 240, or 240x be substituted for it? or will the only thing that attaches to the mother-board be the exact replacement. any help most appriciated, adrian

You should not post the same topic in multiple places here. Best of luck on your screen hunt.

240Z wasn't sold in the States, it was only for the Japan market and maybe sprinkled in Europe (GB or Gr). On Ebay you'll find the XGA screen for $200+ shipping by one vendor only. You'll find the same vendor on the Web. Other than that you'll have to look East.
Will a 240/240X screen work? Might, it will be 800x600 and you'll need a new inverter, cable, and covers (front and back) to go with the screen. There are two models, an "A" which goes with the 240's and a "B" model which is the 240X's. The "A" model is a little brighter.......
whizkid gave good advice........

i would gladly pay $200 for a NEW "C" style xga screen, would you know the vendors contact info? and yes, you are right, the earlyer 240 and 240x screens will interchange, as long as you swap all the components (screen, cable, and inverter) or just swap out the
whole screen-lid assembly. (i did it yesterday, along with a U.S.
spec key-board (that japenese/english key-board is wierd!!) it was a direct swap.
i got the screen and key-board off of a used 300 mhz 240
i bought from e-bay for $60. its a "A" style screen. i personally think the
"A" screens are actually a little darker than the "B" screens.
(this is the first time i have actually used a "A" screen), i figured
I.B.M. switched screen vendors (from panasonic to hitachi)
because the panasonic screens were darker.
but mine may be darker because its used and more worn.

adrian,
Take a look at this:
www.fairpriceshop.com/lcds/05K9830.htm
I can't vouch for them as I've never done any business with that company. I just found them doing a Google search. They're offering a new panel for under $200.

Look for an equivalent screen from Hitachi. I did find one back in April of this year. I've moved since then and most of that information has been lost. You'll see that I've already been where your going.......

Found this when I was looking through yahoo auctions japan for price gauge. Wanted to bid for it but it appears bidding and shipping it will exceed my budget. I think it might be the dream system for some looking for a 240 with xga screen. Hope you might have some way of getting it
Cheers

I've been looking for a comparable since you first posted, I did have another Hitachi part number at one time but I've not been able to locate it. The vendor I had found was listed both on eBay and on the web with the same username as the company's. I've done a search on eBay using "10.4 XGA". Nada so far. Fujitsu had a Lifebook awhile back that used a similar screen in every way. I can't find that information either.
Here's the deal, if you do find a vendor that is reasonable there might be other 240X owners (like myself) who want to upgrade to the XGA. That's why I asked if you'd post what, who and how much. The SVGA is alright but I need lots of realestate when I work, too many apps open at one time.

i got a e-mail from fairprice, said the lcd panel is "out of stock"
i guess that means they dont have it any more, and have not bothered removing it from thier data-base. will keep on searching.
as to the thought of upgrading to a xga lcd on regular 240's and 240x's, it could be done, but would require the replacement of the
lcd, inverter, and cable (the inverter has a different part number,
and i suspect is defferent, i KNOW the cabel is different,it attaches to
the lcd in a different location, and the end connector is not the same.) probibly cost close to $300 for the parts new. at least the
benzel that holds everything together is the same. probibly
cheaper to purchase a whole computer, or screen assy off of
yahoo auctions from japan. the only problem is its a real hassle
to do. most sellers wont ship over-seas, and only take bank transfer for payment. and yahoo auctions work different than
e-bay, extending auctions indefinitly if any new bidders show up in the last few minutes of the auction. the 240z that was listed from
yahoo auctions is actually a 500 mhz celeron, but with the xva
screen, and case from a pentium model. adrian
