600x hard drive question

Hi,I just bought an IBM travelstar 30gb with XP on it.It was taken from a TP t-20 . I wanted to put it in my daughters 600x.Will it work ? We didn't have a copy of XP,so we couldn't upgrade her old one. thanks for any help

The hard drive will work (hardware wise) without question. XP is a toss-up. It all depends on the differences between the T20 and 600X hardware/chipsets. I read on this forum that you can use T20 Recovery Disc/s on a 600X, so it's possible it might work. Try it.

My concern was for the device drivers as well and without a copy of XP on hand..... like for instance; to load the modem driver to get online to update the drivers...... it might be a bit of a furball. XP does on the other hand recognize alot of the older hardware....

You have the forum to blame or thank either way. I'll second the motion to take the plunge, specially since your so near the cold grey waters of the south shore and all.......lol.

thanks,I'll keep my fingers crossed. She has a 12 gb with win 2000 on it.but was hoping for an upgrade.I have learned so much on this forum.We upgraded her memory almost 2 years ago when we bought it. I woundn't have had a clue before I found this.
