Screen probs after installing Win98SE

#1 Post by The Olde Man » Tue Jan 01, 2008 5:17 pm

After installing SE on my TP600 (orig model), my screen went down to 1/4 size. So I hit fn+f8 and got a full screen with very peculiar looking type on it, rather difficult to read.

I searched the archives to no avail. Surely somebody has a fix for this.

You need to install the display/video drivers:

Hmmm! About a year ago, I downloaded a driver for a new installaton of 98 (FE) on my TP. Worked wonders. Tried it this time, worked about half way. It appears to be about 30% larger than the driver in your link so I guess it is a different driver.

Unfortunately, I could not get the link to work. But will keep trying. Maybe if the wind switches direction....

Thanks for the help. This was the only glitch in switching from 98(FE) to 98(SE). Except for finding out that my backup for Quicken failed to back up. Luckily, being paranoid I back up my backups, so I had one only a few days old...which worked.

Sounds like it's actually working. You should right-click on the desktop area, select "Properties" and then "Settings", and increase the resolution to 1024x768.

OK, the wind changed and I got in.

I already had installed one of the drivers presented which was for the adapter.(vfti89m) I installed the one for the monitor. (w98sfdi)
(I think that is correct.)

Anyway, the Systems Monitor shows the driver in place.

No results. Script is still very jagged. Fn+f8 reduces the size, makes it nice and sharp.

Apparently a resolution problem.

So what next? There must be another driver out there cleverly concealed, or I have some setting on the computer set wrong.

Well Golly Gee Whiz, it worked! Reason I say that is that I tried that last night and it didn't. But then the wind was from a different direction so....

Anyway, thanks for all your time on this. I shall now retreat back to my cave in my usual state of mind when dealing with computers; baffled fury.
