The IBM TP701 and it's paintjob...

Hi all,

Finaly after a couple of months of hunting on internet auctions I got my TP 701C up and running. But there is one significant problem whit it's apearance: there were many scratches on the surface and the rubbery paint coat started flaking and constantly falling off. So I scraped the rest of it and sanded the casing. And now I wonder what type of paint should I apply (acrylic, nitro, oil or other) so it wouldn't damage the plastic and be somewhat scratch-resistant. I hope that some of you had this type of problem and would share your opinions.

Many thanks for your reply,

I have used automotive paint in the past on a 600E, and on an IBM Aptiva Tower with success. i just made sure to use a clear coat to protect it.

Would you mind posting pics of the 701 sanded down? As well as documenting your painting process with pics?

Thanks for the prompt reply. Here are the links to the sanded laptop (used a 100 grains per square centimeter paper to scrape the coat off and 800 grains per square centimeter paper to finish it):

I only had time to sand the LCD lid and the sides. Tomorrow I'll finish him.
