Mediamatics DVD Express skin

#1 Post by Wingnut » Mon Jan 14, 2008 5:29 pm

This may sound like a trivial question, but how do I choose the skin for DVD Express? I did a fresh install of both W2K and XP on 2 different machines on the weekend. Then installed the Compaq version of DVD Express, then the IBM update on top of that. Both worked flawlessly with a nice slim black skin. I then went to install it on my new to me T-23 and the skin is totally different. The OS is XP SP2. I am just curious why 2 different skins when the instalation methods were all identical. The Skin on the 2 laptops that were fress installs looked like a newer, sleeker design. The skin on my laptop is older & boxier looking. Not a big deal as they all work to play DVD's, but I was just curious why the difference.

I don't think you can control the skin, it is built in with the branding. I noticed a slight upgrade in appearance when I updated DVD Express from the intial install version up to the later 600-series compatible version. Is it possible that you didn't properly update the T-23 version? I don't have any idea how you would control the skin.

Its weird. I have both DVD programs (the original Compaq version and the IBM update) on a memory stick, so all installs have been with the same software. I have now installed it on 4 different computers (3 x T20's and my new to me T23) in the last few days. I did another T20 last night. And the skin came up with the newer looking skin (long & black with the 45* angled IBM logo in the corner). But for some reason, on my T23 laptop, its the older, boxier grey skin with the old style serated IBM logo in the corner. Its just weird that it can be a different skin on mine.

The only difference is that the T-20's all had fresh instals of an OS on them, while my new T23 still has the OS from the seller. Maybe thats the difference? FWIW, it is the older style skin on my 600X and 600E as well. When I did the first T20, I thought it was neat seeing a different skin and thought it was because the computer was different, but when it didn't work on the T23, it prompted me to ask this question.

But everything works as intended, so I'm not going to sweat it. I just thought it was weird and thought someone might know the reason. Thanks for your response.

I figured it out. I did one more computer today, a t23 with a fresh install if XP Pro. Sure enough, the skin came up with the old style. But after I updated the video driver from Lenovo, it went to the new style......so it was the video driver.
