Hi

This will be my third hard drive and the present one only lasted a year but l don't have the box any more.

650m which hard drive should l get and a 12g would be the max but l never save anything on the hard drive.

ps it's easier to change the hard drive then hunt down virusis. Oh now l have to hunt down wind 2000 pro cd. I know l have it but g-d only knows where.

Wouldn't it be easier to install free Anti Virus like Avast or AVG....... sure they suck a few cycles away from the processor but it's worth not having to replace a disk....... and all your bookmarks....lol.

Tonight I'm getting slammed by a scanner. His IP is always changing so he's snagged a few victims. I'm safe and so is my OS. I just happen to enjoy watching my logs and performing a reverse dns to locate the domain. I've already fired off an email to the ISP, it shouldn't be long before butt head is off my side of the net......

650M is way too small for W2K, it needs @ 2G of space especially with all the Service Packs you'll need to get it current.....

The drives of 20GB or larger in size typically have Fluid Dynamic Bearings, which are much quieter and last much longer than older drives like the 12GBs that came with a 600X. Buy a larger drive (maybe even a new drive) and I think you'll be much happier. The 600X can use ATA or IDE drives up to 120GB in size for sure, and maybe larger.

I have never had a problem with the wind 2000 pro and l store nothing on my laptop The only thing that was happening is that it started to slow down recently or it would seem to get stuck for about 30 seconds.
That's when it crashed or whatever.
I have Avast and l believe that l should have not shut it down my self when it got hung up.

hard drives ALLWAYS write to the same part of the hard disk when shutting down. the registery is written and checked in several different places (regular and bac-up registry) when that portion of the hard drive wears out (and it will) the machine locks up on shut down. the next time it boots, it cant read its registry, if the bac-up
is corrupted in any way, your out of luck.
when you re-format, the bad spots are marked, and not used again. but the new registry areas start the process all over again. hard drives have a finite life span, when getting a used computer,
its a good choice to replace the hard drive with a new one. the new ones are faster, larger, have a larger buffer, and are very affordable. the best part is you know how long they have been used. good luck, adrian

I replaced the hard drive and everything else and put it away. l'm using my T-41 now.
