The details of which number match which FRU are in the Hardware Maintenance Manual. I don't think "battery pack" specifies which battery it is, so your problem could also be your main battery or your back up battery as well as your CMOS battery. I've never heard of anyone having errors crop up due to a bad backup battery, so I would check the main battery before doing anything more drastic. For e.g, try pulling the main battery out and running the diagnostics again. Also, I would try cleaning the contacts for your main battery and ensuring that it is locked in place securely.
Hi

Should l take the battery out and just plug it in to see what happens??

Remove the battery and run the test. If there is any other errors, then I'd be concerned.

In the Bios run the PC Doctor test. Click on the hospital icon and check the whole system. Keep in mind that the memory test will take a while. I would remove all RAM, and let PC Doctor test only with the onboard memory of 32mb.

Hi

I just checked my IBM User's guide and it says to Click start and then move the cursor to programs and PC Doctor for Windows.

I am not able to get this far. After my screen shows me that it is downloading windows and when it's completed everything goes to hell.

Thanks

When turning on the system, hold down F1. This will bring you into the bios screen. There will be four icons. The hospital is the last one on the right. Click on the Hospital Icon. You will then see all the specific test you can perform.

because your cmos battery (or mainboard) was bad.

normally you may enter date/time and after restart (without power off) date/time are ok and bios-screen looks like above.

the 600-series are testing the fan directly at power on - with cmos battery power! with really empty cmos battery <2,3V or without cmos-battery the fan doesn't work and POST breaks down.
