First Off I'm New Here, I have been reading lerking for several weeks. WHAT A GREAT SITE!!! On Ebay I Bought this board and chip
MMC-2 PENTIUM iii 500Mhz CPU. It won't fit my motherboard. The connections to the motherboard are different. My board has two small long connections and the chip/board has one wide and long one. what Chip Do I Need?? Also type and amount of memory would be helpful.

If I'm reading this right you have a 600 and a MMC-2 chip?
If that is it it won't work...The 600's take a MMC-1 CPU..600e's and x's take the MMc-2....

As BillD says.
For pics to help see the difference between MMC-1 and MMC-2, check out Tom's Hardware
Mobile CPU Mania (page 8 shows MMC-1 and
page 10 shows the MMC-2).
For info on how to identify which CPU is which based on the "Product Tracking Code" found on the MMC boards, check out CPU World's summary of the
PIII identification pages.

For what its worth..this is what you need..E Bay item 230214760091. 400 Mhz is as fast as you can go in a 600.
The max amount of memory in a 600, as far as I know is 416 MB of pc66 or pc100 144 pin sodimms.
Theoretically 544 is possible if you can find a stick of PC66 256MB Ram but I have never seen one on E Bay or this site.
Make sure the ram you get is Low density..ie 16 chips ..600's are fussy about memory

Ms makes good points on speeding up your 600...
But the other way to go maybe to buy a barebones 600e( $40-50 with shipping) and slap your HDD and the MMC-2 chip in it.
Honestly I don't know if you're willing to go through the trouble to only upgrade from a 600 to a 600e. But it is fun and fairly easy...
Just saying.
