TP 240x P3/500 MHz only showing a speed of 128 MHz

Hi,

I own a 240x with the P3 500 MHz processor. I've noticed on several occasions that if I right click on My Computer and go to properties, the processor speed is listed as only 128 MHz. This doesn't happen all the time.

I thought it may be because of the power scheme or the fact that it is running off the battery and not plugged it. However, even after plugging it into the outlet and setting the scheme to Home/Office or Always On, I still get the same reduced speed reported.

Any idea why this may be?

check the power setting under your bios and let us know what is being shown there?

Cheers

What OS are you using?

Are you possibly mistaking Mhz for MB?

No, catback is correct, it's the processor speed. I just updated my X20's XPP and it halved the speed it was reporting. It has to do with the native power management of MS vs. IBM and seems to be an issue with the Coppermines.

The bigger problem is that IBM's PM software isn't available for the 240X with XP. I've looked.

catback, do you have the XP supplement files installed?

I know the reason to this one.

When unplugged (running on battery) it will reduce to 128mhz to consume battery.

A follow up to my initial post. The reason the CPU speed was set to 128 MHz was due to a power management setting in the BIOS. After disabling this setting, it now reports the full 500 MHz at all times.

Thanks for the replies.
